High-quality work with natural wood benefits from having a model of the grain in the wood, but building a 500-micron model of an entire work volume is not necessary for motion planning.

The point cloud is reconstructed from depth observations from four static cameras and two arm-mounted SR cameras. The details of the wood come from high-resolution images taken with two different lenses. Registration acts to situate the high-resolution images within the depth observations.
